Our AHEC Scholars is an interprofessional education (IPE) program for students in health professions who are interested in gaining additional knowledge and experience working with rural and underserved populations.
Continuing Professional Education
We provide accredited continued education programs and professional support to meet the needs of healthcare professionals, especially those practicing in rural and underserved areas.
Medical students train hands-on with underserved patients at CHRISTUS Spohn Hospital through our 4-week Family or Emergency Medicine residencies. They gain experience in emergent, inpatient, and outpatient settings, participating in resident activities.
Salud en Mis Manos educates women on preventing and detecting breast/cervical cancer. Free/low-cost screenings (mammograms, pap smears, HPV vaccines) are available.
Community health workers (CHWs) are local health promoters who bridge the gap for underserved communities. Learn more on how to become a community hero!
South Coastal AHEC offers Advanced Cardiac Life Support courses to individuals who need to obtain or renew their certification.
