Our AHEC Scholars is an interprofessional education (IPE) program for health professions students interested in gaining additional knowledge and experience working with rural and underserved populations.
Why SCHOLARS?

What’s Involved?
- Commitment to completing 1 0r 2 years of the program (depending on discipline).
- $500 stipend per year for each year in the program.
- 40 hours of didactics (online or in-person opportunities) each year of the program.
- 40 hours of experimental learning (community based activities, clinical rotations) each year of the program.
- Completions of program MUST be concurrent with student’s graduation from health profession program.
Who Can Participate?
- Students currently enrolled in a health professions program*
- Examples of eligible programs: Nursing, Medicine, Dental, PT, OT, PA, Social Work, Pharmacy, Behavioral Health (Graduate level Psychology and counseling), CHWs, ETC.
- High School students and Undergraduate Pre-Health Professions are NOT eligible.
- Examples of eligible programs: Nursing, Medicine, Dental, PT, OT, PA, Social Work, Pharmacy, Behavioral Health (Graduate level Psychology and counseling), CHWs, ETC.
- Students underrepresented in healthcare are STRONGLY encouraged to apply.
- Students willing to take on extra-curricular activities in addition to their academic commitments.
